Gleinserhof

Wednesday, 17th June

Walk: Schonberg, Gleins, Koppeneck, Sonnenstein, Fulpmes
Start Point: Bus from Fulpmes to start walk from Schonberg Distance: 10 miles
Ascent: 2,222 feet Descent: 2,462 feet
Max Alt: 5,328 feet Time: 5 hours
Weather: Low cloud clearing in the afternoon
Comments: A relaxed ascent to Gleinserhof took us past lots of flowers and colourful meadows. Continuing on we reached Koppeneck, next to the top of the Serlesbahn lift, where we stopped for lunch and the first views of Serles. Four of the group took advantage of a trip on the Serles Toboggan, returning on the gondola. The route then took us on past Sonnenstein and the views improved as the cloud lifted to the top of the peaks. A pleasant path then descended gradually to Fulpmes.

Shall we go this way?

A rather awkward stile . . .

easy to see from this side but not from the opposite direction

The cows have chosen our path for their morning break . . .

so Jane takes to a higher route . . .

leaving the cows in peace

Wood cranesbill or woodland geranium . . .

which fill the meadow . . .

alongside many other flowers

Hemispherical rampion or globe-headed rampion

Bladder campion . . .

with beautiful markings

A great place for our morning break

All ears - except for John!

A new reservoir in the making . . .

overlooked by the flanks of Serles . . .

and a short time later . . .

the summit comes into view

Koppenek - another stop already, giving the opportunity . . .

for Jane, Gillie, Kath . . .

and Mike . . .

to test out the Serles toboggan

Small buildings are often seen on the route . . .

housing pictures of the stations of the cross

Our route continues downhill . . .

with views into and across the valley . . .

and in the centre of the photo we can see the meadow on the Halsl descent

Dark columbine, or dark granny's bonnet

Lots of orchids of one kind . . .

or another

The house look closer now . . .

and closer still!
